Cannabis stores in Ontario open As of May 2019
For now the only way residents in the province of Ontario can legally purchase cannabis is online through the OCS. OCS which stands for “Ontario Cannabis Store” is owned and operated by the provincial government. They sell Cannabis online through their website.

Starting April 1st 2019 Ontario will allow private sale of cannabis in the province.
Sounds great right!? Not exactly… And here’s why.
- The provincial government picked which companies can open up a store via a “random lottery”.
- Of the thousands that applied only 25 were selected, for a “open store date” of April 1st 2018.
- For now, the provincial government put a cap of 25 stores across Ontario.
